Determining source signatures for arrays of marine seismic sources

A source signature for an array of seismic sources for marine seismic analysis is determined by measuring at a plurality of known locations the pressure field produced by one or more seismic sources. A series of simultaneous equations is formed, each equation relating a pressure field measurement to a sum over all source signatures and taking into account reflection coefficients at the sea-surface and the sea-floor and the relative path lengths between a seismic source and a detector. The simultaneous equations are solved to determine the individual source signatures which may then be superposed to provide a source signature for the array that accounts for sea floor reflections of outputs from the seismic sources.
