The seat belt apparatus has sensors to predict and detect impact of vehicles. The pre-tensioners operate the tongue plate and buckle of the seat belt, to vary the belt tension. Tension of the seat belt is increased depending on the output of prediction signal. The airbag is expanded and the pre-tensioner (104) is operated depending on impact detection signal.
