The method involves providing a toner fluid, which uniformly flows in small distance from an image carrier (1) over an edge opposite to a charge pattern in a tonering unit (2). Excess toner fluid is extracted into an extraction channel (10) by depression, where dimension of the extraction channel is adjustable. The extracted toner fluid is precipitated in a precipitation container (13), and is supplied to a storage container. The edge is sharp-edged to form an extremely inhomogeneous electrostatic field with the charge pattern. An independent claim is also included for a device for colorizing a latent electrostatic image with a fluid toner.
