The device has a routing unit (4) for detecting a pedal travel of an operating device (2). A control device (6) is designed in such a manner that a control signal is produced by the control device based on a characteristic line. An actuator (8) operates a decoupler (TK) depending on the control signal. The characteristic line reproduces a relation between the pedal travel of the operating device and a release path of the decoupler, where different driving conditions are assigned to different characteristic behavior.
