The method involves ascertaining or determining the change of the capacitance of a dipole (1), which consists of a chassis part (2.1) and another chassis part (2.2) that are electrically insulated from each other. The capacitance is determined by measuring a value of an impedance of the dipole at a predetermined frequency, measuring a detuning of an oscillator with the dipole or by determining a charging or discharging constants of the resistance capacitor element with dipole. An independent claim is also included for a device for detection of a contact of chassis part with another chassis part of a vehicle and for detection of an approach on the chassis part by a person.
