The driver assisting system is provided for detection of a road user found in a surrounding area of a vehicle (5) e.g. lorry, and is arranged for determining actual traffic situation in dependent of the road user detected in the environment of the vehicle. The system is arranged for selecting aiding functions in dependent of a deviation between the actual traffic situation and a traffic situation that is expected regarding the determined actual traffic situation. The system determines the actual traffic condition in dependent of the position of the vehicle. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for selecting aiding functions of a vehicle by a driver assisting system (2) a computer program with a program code for implementation of the method for selecting aiding functions of a vehicle by a driver assisting system.
