The method involves arranging a pump (4) between a heat source (141) and a heat sink (142). Feed and return lines (10, 11) are connected via a bypass (144) with adjustable response threshold. An entire water flow rate is drawn in the return line (11) from the heat sink by the pump, is supplied to a parallel connection of the bypass, which is designed as an over flow valve (9), and the heat exchanger, and is passed over the heat exchanger, when a flow rate from the heat sink is larger than a flow rate through the heat exchanger. An independent claim is also included for a heating system comprising a heat exchanger.
