Virtual simulation tools provide a lot of advantages over actual field testing of components and/or prototypes. In order to obtain a good approximation of behavior and performance of the vehicle, it is of utmost importance to ensure that the vehicle model generated in the virtual domain should represent the actual vehicle as closely as possible. This can be attained through a systematic approach to modeling of the virtual vehicle model and subsequently validation of the vehicle model. For simulation in virtual domain, it would be desirable to give inputs representative of the real world rather than some simplified operation. In this regard, use of digitized road profile inputs obtained from ARAI Road Profile Measurement System provides a much needed advantage in terms of representation of real world conditions and their use in virtual simulation. Such inputs give a clearer picture of the overall vehicle characteristics which is useful in development of vehicles best suited for a given application.
