The method involves configuring a plain old telephone system (POTS)-part (10) e.g. POTS-management-adapter (11), by calling line identification presentation (CLIP)-messages, which are transmitted to a POTS-interface (12). An Integrated services digital network (ISDN)specific parameter of the POTS-management adapter is transferred in fields of the CLIP-messages, where the fields are standardized for similar information. The CLIP-messages in the POTS-interface are forwarded using a telephone number of a receiver. The clip-messages are represented by the telephone number. An independent claim is also included for a device such as a plain old telephone system (POTS)-terminal and a POTS-management-adapter configurable on a POTS-interface.
