The invention relates to a process for extracting coal from final slopes of open mining, used for open pit brown coal mining. According to the invention, the process consists in that on a pit final slope, a mechanical shovel-excavator excavates the sterile from some blocks (2 and 3), dimensioned according to the equipment characteristics and the width of an interior dump step (L), the excavator uncovers the sterile up to the surface of a coal layer (4), afterwards the excavator runs on the uncovered coal layer and the sterile is deposited directly on a base level (b) of the pit, on the lower step, in some piles (5 and 6) of an interior dump ( c).
