The invention relates to a process and a plant for treating and removing the spent NaOH solutions resulting from the installations for the sweetening of liquefied petroleum gas fractions. According to the invention, the process consists in the dilution with refinery waste water in a volume ratio of 0.0001:1...0.0004:1, neutralization with 10...98% sulphuric acid and/or an aqueous solution resulting from the deep neutralization of spent KOH solutions up to a pH value of 6.5...8.5, followed by the discharge of the resulting effluent. The plant claimed by the invention consists of two distinct modules, namely one module for the dilution with waste water, where the spent solution is pumped with a proportioning pump and one module for the mixture neutralization.
