Invention herewith described refers to the synthesis, characterisation and pharmacological properties of the bioactive copper(II)-ion complexes with pullulan and its derivatives. The complex compounds of Cu(II)-ions with oligosaccharides of pullulan (Mw 1.000-80.000 gmol-1) and its derivatives, primarily reduced and oxidized pullulan (Mw 1.000-25.000 gmol-1), are synthesized, physico-chemically characterized and pharmacologically investigated. The synthesis procedure is characterized by technical simplicity and economy. Following the suggested procedure, pullulan is first prepared as a ligand for the complex synthesis including its depolymerisation and characterization (RG, MW, [&eegr;] determination) and then the reduction or oxidation of the adequate oligomers. The complex synthesis is performed at the boiling temperature at pH 7-8 in the presence of Cu(II)-ion salt solution. The obtained complex is then subjected to the subsequent physico-chemical purification processes and prepared for structural and pharmacological investigations. Based on the standardized aqueous solution of Cu(II)-ion complex with oligosaccharides of pullulan, the pharmacologically investigated pharmaceutical preparation is prepared, which can be used to prevent the condition resulting from copper deficiency (hypocupremia), as well as in the prevention and treatment of various types of anaemia (individually or combined with bio metal preparations), primarily in veterinary medicine and later, with some corrections, in human medicine.
