A method for estimating the physical development of the young schoolchildren (6-12 years) provides for anthropometry (body height, body mass). In addition, the circumferences of the head and the thorax are measured. The data obtained are then analyzed using the empirical indices: mass to height, pondered, half mass to height, Sheldon coefficient. The percents of the measured and calculated values are compared with the aid of Z-score (within the ranges ±1ơ, from ±1 to ± 2ơ and or 2ơ. Z is calculated as M/S, where X characterized the corresponding value of each person examined, M is the mean arithmetic value in a group, S is standard deviation or ơ. The data obtained are compared with the average values. When such difference is small, the development is considered as satisfactory. When the data obtained upon examination are significantly lower than the average values, the development is considered as unsatisfactory.
