The method involves implementing classification of fishes under water. The fishes in water in an identification station (1) are identified based on characteristic identity features, are measured in a measuring station (2) based on the identity and are classified in a triage station (3) based on the measured values. The characteristic- and measured data are stored in and retrievable from a database (16). The individual fishes are identified by optical/electronic production, processing and storage of characteristic images of body contours and/or biomass of the fishes. An independent claim is also included for a device for classifying alive fishes and comprising an identification station with LEDs.
