The method involves measuring a parameter e.g. workpiece temperature, flow rate and/or pressure, of a gaseous fuel. The measured parameter is supplied to an evaluation device. Initial values for adjustment of the gaseous fuel parameter are determined in the device by comparing with empirically determined reference characteristic diagrams of a gas burner (2) depending on the parameter of the gaseous fuel at different workpiece temperatures, and are supplied to an adjusting device of the burner. An independent claim is also included for a device for adjusting a flame parameter of a gas burner for thermal glass processing.
