The device measures and/or controls properties of a planar material web based on sequential single values of the properties of the material web independent of deviations of a mean value of the properties of the material web. The measurement and/or control of the properties takes place based on longitudinal and transverse profiles of the properties by adding squares of differences of the sequential single values of the properties. Other single values of a time sequence are considered during determination of measuring and/or control values. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring and/or controlling properties of planar material webs.
