The lighting unit (1) has a reflector (3) for reflecting a part of light radiated by illuminants (2) i.e. LEDs (2a, 2b), against an open side (3a) of an open shell. The illuminants are attached within the open shell such that a central axis (Z) of the light is aligned with respect to an interior of the open shell and runs parallel to the open side of the shell. The illuminants are arranged on a cooling body (5) that vertically extends within the reflector, and the open side of the shell is closed by a transparent plate (4).
