The invention relates to a deterministic method for quantitatively describing flows in natural porous media by designing an artificial system equivalent to any natural porous medium. From this equivalent system all the flow parameters and properties of the natural porous medium can be deduced. Inputs include a radius for each type of pore present, an associated percentage of presence from the second, a characteristic length, and the value of porosity. For the general case restricted to two types of pore, the entries are therefore five in number. The equivalent porous medium consists of several series of the same number of identical tubes distributed randomly in a three-dimensional network of porosity close to one. Each radius per series is deduced from the values of the analytic expression reproducing any MICP deterministically according to, for the general case, four inputs (R1, R2,% R 1). The interconnection of the nodes is abstract, any flow occurring only in the tubes. A random tube removal operation is performed to verify the value of the porosity input. The process according to the invention is particularly intended for the optimization of oil recovery, the management of groundwater, the study of soil remediation, the recovery of ores by leaching, the design of filters etc.
