The assembly has a handicapped person transporting system for transporting a handicapped person from a rolling wheelchair towards a base (2) of a seat of an airplane. The seat has side armrests (5.1, 5.2) arranged in respective sides of the base and extending at a vertical level (N') higher than a vertical level (N) of the base. A leveling unit (9) is positioned on the base of the seat. The leveling unit fills a level difference between the base of the seat and a top part of one of the armrests, when the leveling unit is in a top position (P1). An independent claim is also included for a method for transporting a handicapped person.
