PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead-free piezoelectric ceramic sinterable at low temperatures. PSOLUTION: There is provided a sintering aid for producing a lead-free piezoelectric ceramic including a compound represented by the composition formula, x(BiSB0.5/SBNaSB0.5/SBTiOSB3/SB)-y(BaTiOSB3/SB)-z(SrTiOSB3/SB) (wherein x+y+z=1) as a main component. The additive comprises oxides of bismuth and zinc, and the balance boron oxide. The BNT-BT-ST-based piezoelectric ceramics can be densified at the firing temperature of ≤1,100°C by using the above sintering additive. As a result, piezoelectric devices can be made by using the lead-free piezoelectric ceramic, thus preventing damage to natural environment. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
