The present invention makes it possible to detect a desired menu item using minimal effort, without having to understand a large, complex menu tree structure, on a portable information device having increased functionality. A menu item display device enabling a menu item to be selected, the menu item display device being provided with: an input unit for receiving a user operation; a display unit for outputting the menu item; a memory unit for storing the menu tree structure and information on relevance between individual menu items; an input assessment unit for assessing the menu item corresponding to the user operation when an input operation performed by a user has occurred; and a display controller for extracting and outputting to the display unit other menu items related to the assessed menu item, using the relevance information.
