In particular, the invention proposes a proactive method and device, that, in a distributed manner, detects cases of network topology changes when they occur and that may prevent correct propagation of data updates in the distributed data storage networks. The mechanism is reactive, and ensures maintenance of at least a correct path between any two nodes ('update path') that are part of an update overlay used for data update propagation.
