PURPOSE: A haptic actuator using a permanent magnet and magneto rheological fluid and a haptic providing method using the same are provided to implement various haptic patterns by controlling the direction and intensity of electricity supplied to a solenoid. CONSTITUTION: A haptic actuator comprises a standing cylindrical or polygonal barrel-shaped case, a solenoid(100) which surrounds the case and creates a magnetic filed through the inside of the case when electricity is supplied, a permanent magnet(200) which is raised toward the solenoid by the attraction of the magnetic field and lowered when the electricity supply is cut off, and magneto-rheological fluid(300) which is fully filled in the case from the top of the permanent magnet to the top of the case. When power is supplied to the solenoid, the magneto-rheological fluid is pushes up with the permanent magnet and the viscosity of the magneto-rheological fluid is increased by the magnetic field. When power is cut off, the viscosity of the magneto-rheological fluid is reduced.
