The method involves conducting exhaust gas by a catalyzer (28) in order to determine characteristic performance of the catalyzer. Temperature of the exhaust gas is determined, where the determined time of the temperature of exhaust gas, a pattern of a time course, the temperature of the exhaust gas are compared by statistical process. The performance of the catalyzer is judged by result of comparison, where the result of comparison defines similarity measure between the determined timing and the pattern of time course.
