The method involves scanning discharge of a patient, and performing sequential digitization of discharge in preset time intervals and storage of an actual digital scanning value in a memory. Characteristic features are computed and stored to the actual scanning value formed from scanning values. An R-wave is detected based on a change of the characteristic features relative to the actual scanning value proceeding to the stored characteristic features. A product of absolute difference values of pairs of scanning values is formed for computation of the characteristic features. An independent claim is also included for an imaging investigation device for representation of a heart of a patient.
