The method involves using an image display having a layer of single switchable liquid crystal cells. The color or polarization-effective elements are divided by a supplementary logic such that liquid crystal cells are arranged structurally and spatially in raster groups (RGR1,RGR2). The raster groups are respectively linked with left stereo images (L1,L2) and right stereo images (R1,R2) in time intervals (t1,t2). All liquid crystal cells of the image display are fed in two lighting modes (BLM1,BLM2) with the same light quality. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) space-time multiplex stereo image display device; (2) switchable light generation system for space-time multiplex stereo image display device; and (3) liquid crystal cell pair for space-time multiplex stereo image display device.
