Device (100) comprises: a proton accelerator (110) for generating a proton beam (115), a reaction chamber (120) which is provided for receiving a target (125) comprising transuranium elements; a first casing chamber, which surrounds the reaction chamber at least partly, where a liquid moderator is arranged in the first casing chamber; a heat exchanger arranged to transfer heat from the moderator to a medium to generate steam; a turbine which is adapted to be driven by the steam; and a generator, which is adapted to be driven by the turbine to generate electric energy. An independent claim is also included for converting of transuranium elements, comprising bombarding the target comprising transuranium element with a beam of accelerated protons, heating the moderator by energy released during nuclear fission processes in the target, transferring heat from the medium to the moderator to produce steam, driving the turbine using the steam, and driving the generator by the turbine to generate electric energy.
