The sensor (22) has two time-of-flight pixel regions (310, 320) for operating the sensor with different phase measuring modes. Modulation drivers (210) are connected with one or more phase shifters (351-353) through a switch, where time-of-flight pixels (220) of a modulated light are formed as photomixer devices and connected to the modulated drivers. One time-of-flight pixel region is arranged in a middle area of the sensor and another time-of-flight pixel region is arranged in an edge area of the sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a light time sensor.
