The seat has a mounting (1) for supporting a seat (3), and a frame (4) for supporting a backrest (5), which is slidably mounted along the frame via a position adjusting device (8). The position adjusting device includes a rack integral with the frame, and a latch is mounted on the backrest to slide between a backrest locking position in which an end of the latch is engaged in the rack, and a backrest release position in which the end of the latch is disengaged from the rack. A button controls the latch between the two positions.
