The present invention relates to a health functional food or a composition comprising an extract of a processed panax genus plant as an active ingredient having a content sum of the ginsenoside Rg3, Rg5 and Rk1 greater than a content sum of the ginsenoside Rb1, Rb2, Rc and Rd. More specifically, the composition comprising the extract of the processed panax genus plant as an active ingredient is effectively used to prevent and treat arteriosclerosis since the present invention is confirmed to have excellent effectiveness through the results of the experiments; effects of forming foam cell by applying an oxLDL onto a macrophage; influences on the generation of an oxidative gene, NO, and lipid peroxidation; effects on the expression of TNFa, iNOS,ABCA1, CD36, PPAR-gamma and MMP-9 known as initiators for proliferating infection and vascular smooth muscle cells; and inhibitory effects of an extract of processed ginseng on vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and cell migration by the use of the carotid smooth muscle cell of humans.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2014
