The measuring system has a vibration element (V1) for guiding flowing portion of the medium, where vibration element has a lumen. A vibration exciter (E1) is provided for the excitation of vibrations of the vibration element such that the vibration element executes partially, resonant vibrations, such as mechanical vibration with a resonance frequency depending on the density of the medium. A vibration sensor (S1) detects the vibration, particularly resonant vibration of the vibration element. The vibration sensor is adapted to generate a vibration signal depending on vibration of the vibration element. The vibration signal has signal frequency corresponding to the resonant frequency.
