The device (1) comprises planar substrate (2), ablation building material layer (3) facing room or area (5) and surface (8) having an insulating coating layer (4) facing room or area (6) within potential fire source (9). The substrate is made of good heat conducting material preferably metal. The ablation building material layer and/or coating layer are made of polypropylene fibers. The proportion of thermoplastic fibers in ablation building material layer and coating layer is preferably 0.5-1 weight %. An independent claim is included for a method for fire protection of area or region.
