The method involves providing a liquid product quantity in an operating mode to be smaller than another liquid product quantity in another operating mode, where the former quantity corresponds to 0% to 2% of a quantity of an oxygen-rich liquid fraction that is evaporated in a mixed column (M). A feed air flow is completely fed into the column. The latter quantity corresponds to 1% to 5% of the quantity of the evaporated oxygen-rich liquid fraction. The feed air flow is fed to a portion in the mixed column and to another portion in a separating column (S2). An independent claim is also included for an air separation system.
