The method involves providing heating element in flow meter. The temperature of the fluid medium is measured by temperature sensor. The volume flow of the medium through the pipe is determined by electronic evaluation unit. The heating power is supplied from the signal of the temperature sensor and the heating element. The media independent measurement of the volume flow of the fluid medium through the pipeline and time-dependent thermal conductivity measurement using a calorimetric measurement are combined. An independent claim is included for thermal flow meter.
