The method involves receiving an indicator of a quality of service or a service level agreement for multiple network services by a switching subsystem in optical network units (130-1-130-N), where the network services are provided by an optic connection terminal (OLT) (110) to participants coupled with the switching subsystem. The network services are provided in the network units via an optic network cable by the connection terminal to an optic interface. An operation of the switching subsystem is configured based on the received indicator of quality of service or the service level agreement. An independent claim is also included for a network unit.
