The method involves preparing a support base, and placing support elements (31) on the base for supporting a slab (14). The slab is made of prefabricated concrete and provided with two rails (16) defining a path for a rail vehicle, where the rails are connected by crosspieces (18). The slab is installed on the support elements by aligning the slab in perpendicular directions such that the slab is held on the support elements for passage of the rail vehicle on the rails. A track (10) is placed to replace ballasted tracks, which are placed at depth lower than 40 cm, preferably 30 cm. An independent claim is also included for a railway track.
