isolated expression construct, transgenic animal, and methods for producing a lineage terminating female, for propagating transgenic animals with maternal sterility construct, and for generating a sterile generation of animals the present invention provides maternal sterility (msc) constructs and methods of producing sterile progeny that do not have germ cells. females carrying the msc transgene will give rise to a sterile generation as msc specifically eliminates the progenitor germ cells (pgcs) from their progeny. These females are called lineage finishing females. males carrying the msc transgene, however, give rise to fertile progeny (assuming the male is not derived from a msc transgenic female). thus transgenic males with MSc can be used to propagate the transgenic lineage. The invention may be advantageously applied to eliminate invasive pests, or to provide efficient population control and to improve crop performance of crop species such as fish and shellfish.
