The present invention relates to an optimized hierarchical block matching (OHBM) method and system, and an image registration method and an image compressing method. The OHBM method and system according to the embodiment of the present invention performs hierarchical block matching by determining a unit scale factor which is a scale factor between two consecutive layers and the number of layers of an image pyramid to optimize accuracy and a computational cost in the hierarchical block matching.
