Provided is an artificially lighted microalgae farming apparatus for use in farming freshwater eukaryotic microalgae, comprising a reaction vessel, a light-emitting apparatus, a nutrient distributing apparatus, and a gas supplying apparatus. The reaction vessel is used for accommodating a culture solution for microalgae growth. The light-emitting apparatus provides into the reaction vessel a light required for microalgae growth. The nutrient distributing apparatus is used for providing into the culture solution nutrients required for microalgae growth and reproduction and the nutrient distributing apparatus is capable of providing manganese ions into the culture solution. The gas supplying apparatus is used for providing into the reaction vessel a gas required for microalgae growth. Also provided is a method for farming freshwater eukaryotic microalgae in the artificially lighted microalgae farming apparatus, comprising the steps of: (1) providing the artificially lighted microalgae farming apparatus for use in farming freshwater eukaryotic microalgae, and, (2) culturing freshwater eukaryotic microalgae in the farming apparatus.
