The present invention relates to a picture taking system of a portable device having an automatic search function and an automatic search method using the system. The picture taking system of a portable device includes: a picture taking unit (10) capable of taking a picture; a storage unit (20) storing the taken picture; an output unit (30) recognizing faces in the picture to display all persons; a recognition unit (40) recognizing the all persons and the faces in the picture; and a search unit (50) automatically searching for an omitted person and a face.
