Assimilated C and N generally affect plant growth and crop yield. Previous attempts to alter the plant's carbon and nitrogen status have been attempted with one or two genes. The present invention involves simultaneous co-overexpression of three genes, one coding for efficient capture of CO2 (PEPCase), and two encoding enzymes related to nitrogen assimilation (Asp AT and GS). The combined effect is an enhancement of the plant's carbon and nitrogen status and productivity.
