REINFORCED AND ISOLATED RESIN PANEL FOR PROTECTION OF STRUCTURES SUBJECTED TO BLAST LOADINGS

Reinforced and isolated resin panel for protection of structures against near field blast loadings, the panel comprising at least a first stratum, at least a second stratum, at least a third stratum and a separating means, where the first stratum is a resin plate, the at least one second stratum is a metallic mesh, the at least one third stratum is a metallic plate jacket and the separating means defines a separation zone between the panel and a structure to be protected. The panel may be installed as independent layers, so as to produce strong collisions between the different resin layers and increasing fracture surfaces. The panel is particularly useful for protecting columns of buildings exposed to intentional or accidental blasts, where the focus of the blast loading is located very near the column and consequently the building could be exposed to progressive collapse. The panel system can be adapted to any type of column cross section and it also allows for the protection of masonry walls, and concrete shear walls and slabs.
