In particular, disclosed is a method for prediction of resources of coal methane at an area of an abandoned mine, which involves determining methane content of coal beds in coal rock massif, angles of its unloading with working face, measuring intensity of methane release in area of production and establishing rate of decrease over time after mining of coal. At stopped section in zones of underworking and overworking of coal beds, method comprises further determination of natural and residual methane content therein, establishing unloading angles of carbonaceous rocks in roof and soil from mining face line for period of shutdown of coal mining. Methane resources are determined in unloaded coal product zones, enclosed in corresponding zones of section of three planes of unloading of coal rock massif, on sum of differences of natural and residual methane of corresponding coal beds in coal bearing formation.;EFFECT: proposed method increases accuracy of determining methane resources on left section of abandoned mine and detection of potential or practicability of extraction and utilisation of such methane resources.;1 cl
