PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for precisely and quickly discriminating the country of origin of a distributed edible Laminaria japonica from among the countries of Japan, China, and Korea.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for discriminating whether Laminaria japonica is Saccharina japonica (including varieties of S. japanica, i.e., S. religiosa, S. ochotensis, and S. diabolica) or not, according to the coincidence ratio of 99% or more by comparing and analyzing a partial sequence of NAD5 gene in the alga of the genus Saccharina (positions 1166-1590, 425 bp) with the base sequence of the positions 1166-1590 (425 bp) of S. japonica.
