Summary The process of removing carbon dioxide from a solvent loaded with carbon dioxide uses two stages of a flash apparatus. Carbon dioxide is flushed from the solvent at the higher temperature and pressure of the first stage and at the lower temperature and pressure of the second stage and fed to a multistage compression train for high pressure liquefaction. Since some of the carbon dioxide supplied to the series of compression steps is already under pressure, there is less energy to compress the carbon dioxide further into the liquid state compared to conventional methods.
