Automatic initialization method of active contours applied to pulmonary segmentation in tomographic images. The automatic active contour initialization method presented in this patent is based on the fact that automatic segmentation of objects in digital images is an essential step for digital image processing. however, the active contour and level set methods have the disadvantage of relying on initial contour initialization. This problem is traditionally solved with manual user intervention. Thus, it is important to use techniques that allow the automation of segmentation of objects in digital images that employ such techniques. The automatic initialization method of active contours is based on hybrid projection functions. This method allows the automatic initialization of two simultaneous initial contours on CT scans of the lungs as well as digital imaging in general. The main advantage of this method is its low computational complexity, which allows its use in conjunction with the active contour segmentation algorithm or level set, as well as its application in computed tomography and gray level images.
