A cyclone separator with improved separation properties is disclosed, as well as a fixed-bed gasifier to create synthesis gas from carbon-containing raw materials using such a cyclone separator. The gas inlet expands in a spiral in the direction of flow. Due to the spiral expansion of the gas inlet, the efficiency of particle separation is improved. By expanding the gas inlet, the formation and maintenance of a vortex flow in the separation body is promoted. By reducing the cross section, the flow rate increases and thus the efficiency of particle separation.
