A method of computing intensity of electromagnetic fields surrounding an equipment under test (EUT) using an electromagnetic solver is disclosed. A RGB image of the EUT provided as input is processed and parameters that include geometry, material properties and boundary conditions are extracted based on color component intensities that are mapped to specific values of the required parameters. The electromagnetic solver may be excited in a predetermined time window using either a continuous time signal mode or a discrete signal mode over the identified simulation domain to simulate and compute the intensity of electric and magnetic fields. Further a method of providing a RGB image as input for an electromagnetic solver is disclosed. Also, an electromagnetic field computing system having a simulation tool that includes RUN, PAUSE, RESUME and EXPORT functions is disclosed. The method may be incorporated in electromagnetic structures such as photonic crystal waveguides, directional couplers etc.
