Disclosed is a method for controlling air leakage in a goaf area during a shallow and close coal seam mining process. The method mainly comprises techniques such as surface air leakage fracture sealing and downhole air leakage channel detection and sealing, and comprises: firstly, measuring the width of a surface mining fracture, calculating air leakage speed of a fracture, sealing a fracture with excessive width and air leakage speed, for a roof in an air-intake and air-return tunnel in the goaf area which will not easily cave, manually making the roof cave to reduce air leakage into the goaf area; secondly, using a beam tube monitoring system to monitor the concentration of O2 in the goaf area, determining, according to the concentration of O2, whether there is air leakage in the goaf area; then, using a tracer gas method to detect an air leakage channel in a place such as a downhole coal pillar and the air-intake and air-return tunnel, taking corresponding actions to stop leakage; and while stopping leakage, using a fan and air window joint pressure regulation method to balance pressure of the goaf area and a working face to reduce air leakage in the goaf area and to prevent coal spontaneous combustion in the goaf area.
