A pattern recognition-based visual projection interaction system and interaction method. The system comprises a projector 1, a camera 2, an infrared emitter 3 and a PC. First, the system forms a plane covered by a near infrared light source in a projection area; when a user moves in the area, light spots are diffusely reflected to the legs of the user; also, an infrared filter is added to a lens of the camera 2 to reduce the background complexity and highlights the target light spots. Next, by calculating morphologic parameters such as area, area to perimeter ratio, and circularity of infrared light spots on human legs and performing filtering, a primary coarse-grained classifier is formed. Then, a minimum error rate Bayesian Discriminant in a pattern recognition method is used as a secondary fine-grained classifier. Finally, coordinates of a target on an image are mapped to coordinates of a cursor of the PC, thereby enabling control over the cursor.
